Local artist Michelle Dooley started the Bellingham Artists Social Club, and it’s a fantastic way for Bellingham locals to get out, meet new people, and explore the arts! We interviewed Michelle about the social club to see what you need to know about joining:
Q: Does it cost anything to join and come to the Bellingham Artists Social Club meet-ups?
Michelle: It is free! However, anyone is welcome to contribute a donation to the Community Co-op for the use of their new Connections Room, in the Bellingham Artists Social Club name.
Q: I found your group on Facebook and saw the event invites! So the idea is basically that people can meet up and make art together?
Michelle: Yes! Exactly and we welcome members of the Facebook group to post freely about any of their art happenings and shows. The meet-ups are updated monthly, so be sure check in on our events page regularly.
Q: Are there lessons/classes, or is it more of a “free time” format?
Michelle: The meet-ups are a free format, and everyone works independently, together, unless they decide they’d like to collaborate. This way we get exposed to artists from all walks. Everyone brings in their own supplies which often gives us a chance to learn new tools and techniques.
Q: If someone doesn’t know where to start, what should they bring?
Michelle: Themselves! We are open to non-artists joining us as well! Come for the conversation, you may be inspired. Any medium is welcome as long as you’re able to clean up after yourself.
Q: Are any supplies provided?
Michelle: No supplies are provided, but sharing often happens. Artists are a generous lot.
Thank you very much for sharing, Michelle!
